ABSTRACT
Two emollients (ammonium lactate – 12% and Dermazone Penetrating
Body Lotion) were compared in a double-blind test for efficacy in reduction
of xerotic grade of bilateral plantar xerosis. A total of 43 out of
57 participants (75%) followed complete instructions and applied the
lotions (one to each foot) twice daily for a four-week period. Clinical
physicians evaluated each volunteer once a week for six weeks (final
two week for measure of post-treatment regression), and assessed xerotic
grade (degree of dryness) and treatment with both lotions, and continued
into the fourth week. There were no significant differences between
the two lotions in the six-week patterns of either xerotic grade or
treatment effectiveness.
