Dermazone Solutions at St. Petersburg 2010 Job Cluster Summits

Deborah Duffey, President of Dermazone Solutions, recently participated in a panel for the St. Petersburg Job Cluster Summits- an initiative of St. Petersburg to help “strengthen and grow the city’s pre-existing, six business clusters, with the ultimate goal to create more jobs within the community.”

Dermazone Solutions participated as part of the Medical Technologies and Healthcare Services summit.

Panelists shared their expertise and industry insights on the following questions:

  1. With a network of collaborative relationships, where do you see the engagement of local entrepreneurs/small businesses into the overall business cluster; what is missing? (ie: Suppliers and Distributors)
  2. Are workers, specialized training, and educational realms readily available to your business’s dynamics? Are there any current occupational shortages? If so, how is this overcome/handled? (ie: Workforce ready)
  3. How would the cluster in St. Petersburg benefit from better connectivity with regional and state-wide stakeholders? What specific steps can governmental agencies and other stakeholders in St. Petersburg take to accomplish this? (ie: Support Arm)
  4. What are the value-added benefits of the newly formed partnership with Johns Hopkins affiliate? What are some of the anticipated economic impacts the region and/or state could experience? (ie: Collaborative Partnership)
  5. For the city’s economic development recruitment efforts to enhance this growing cluster, do you have recommendations on who/what to target to the region? (ie: Key acquisitions to our region)
  6. Is there a foreseen need for a medical technologies incubator? Geared towards providing start-up companies access to resources and tools? (ie: Business Spin-off; Gardening)
  7. Are there legislative challenges and/or recent passages, at federal and/or state levels, impacting business growth, development, or capital funding goals? (ie: Rules/Regs)
  8. Is there an international presence/component within your business?If so, please elaborate. (ie: Beyond U.S. border ties)
  9. With the recent passing of the 2010 Healthcare Reform Act, what are the anticipated impacts to business and compliance policies and how are you addressing them? (ie: Business adaptation and compliance)
  10. Where does your business see “pockets of potential” in the industry cluster and how can St. Petersburg/Tampa Bay be a competitive player? (ie: Industry opportunities)
